On April 26 2013, in celebration of World Intellectual Property Day, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Turkey and The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) launched a successful “I Buy Real” campaign with a series of events being held all over Turkey. The campaign is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Directorate General of Copyrights, the Ministry of Customs and Trade, Turkish National Police, several NGOs and national and international private companies. The large advertising campaign incorporates personal messages of local writers, designers and musicians into the “Fakes Cost More, I Buy Real!” materials.
Various public awareness events were organized covering all 81 provinces of Turkey. Celebrities and business leaders visited an informational booth set-up by ICC Turkey in a major shopping mall in Istanbul. In the evening, a gala dinner was organized to launch the television ad against counterfeiting and piracy. The ad features the “I Buy Real”-logo.
The Turkish “I Buy Real”-campaign was highly publicized and extensively covered by the different media, with numerous newspaper and magazine articles, posters, TV ads, and web stories. The events were also attended by prominent members of Turkish society including public officials, top businessmen, and local celebrities. The widespread publicity and large number of participants in the events effectively promoted awareness and contributed to the fight against counterfeiting and piracy.
